The flat & its surroundings

By Adam & Charlotte

We live in a place called “Gold Coast”. Sounds fancy. From our 16th floor, we overlook the sea, pool, and greenery of our complex. Sunsets are lovely from up here. When we open the windows, we can hear a concert of birds which is lovely.

There is a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and 2 bedrooms. The guest bedroom is excited to welcome its first guests! It’s more spacious than we thought and after adding some decorations it feels more & more like our place. We are happy to announce that we are proud parents of an air fryer now and, of course, no flat is complete without a little statue of Merkel having a poo.

A short walk away is a small shopping area called “Gold Coast piazza” with a 7/11 (survival), a sweet coffee shop, a few restaurants, and a supermarket. We pass the piazza every day on the way to work/school which is a 15 min. walk. Straight after the piazza, is the gold coast beach.

Around 15-20 min. on the bus and you are in Tuen Mun which is the most western point of Hong Kong. Here we shop for our fruit and vegetable at one of many wet markets. Fruit and veg are seasonal, fresh and much cheaper than in the modern supermarkets and it’s a lot of fun trying to communicate with the vendors. Tuen Mun has several shopping malls where we can find anything we might need or still miss in the flat 🙂

Most essentials are close by. It doesn’t feel like a big city here as we are living more in the suburbs. However, the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong central and TST is around 40-60 min on public transportation. Many younger staff members therefore live downtown and commute around an hour every day to work to be close to all the fun.

We will see how we are finding it in the next few months and then decide if we prefer a calmer surrounding but a commute into town or the other way around.

Keep you posted!
